The biggest group that embraced daisy is the visually impaired community. Like myself they are well known with daisy-players. The problem with these dedicated players is the price. Here in Holland you pay 500 USD for a portable player. Although the iPhone lack physical buttons, Voiceover solves most of this. There are two major solutions for a portable Daisy-player: The Victor Reader Stream and the Milestone. The Stream is leaning heavily on the tactile memory of visually impaired people. It has the same layout as the bigger home models. As the iPhone does not use tactile input this interface is not useful for Read2Go. The Milestone only has 5 buttons. They are placed in a cross. This is a good example for read2go.
The centre button is start stop. Left and right is previous and next. Up and down is the level that is assigned to the left and right buttons. This can be virtually assigned to the Voiceover commands of the iPhone. Like the standard behavior of Voiceover sliding the finger can announce the buttons. Double tabbing or tabbing with a second finger on the screen activates the button. Also this is standard behavior of the Voiceover. By using the whole screen for placing this cross, the user can control the application without seeing the screen and search the buttons.

Known levels are:
Books, heading level 1 to 6, sentence, time jump 5 minutes, bookmarks, begin / end of book, sleep timer set and sleep timer activate.

Now there is only one strange but very useful behavior. The application knows the levels of the whole book. And even when at that moment only level 1 is available the user still can activate lower levels. This has the advantage that the user can select the lowest level and can be sure that the jump finds the next article,. without the need to know the present level.

This is a comment on the request for playing in the background.
Stop by loosing focus is a feature not a bug. Quickly stopping the player when user needs to concentrate on the world around her or him, is essential. The only physical button is the home button and can be quickly found and pressed.

Performance problem.
When reading a audio daisy book with the possibility of sentence navigation, there is a hiccup after every sentence. This is probably due to the smil file calculation that is not performed in a separate threat. During this calculation the audio is stopped. This is very annoying and is the main bottleneck for most visually impaired users that are used to having an uninterrupted playback.
Please let me know what you think of my suggestions. I have experience with most of the daisy applications on the iPhone. So if you want a comparison, please let me know.
